As commodity prices and demand for steel soars beer kegs are proving to be a cash bonanza for thieves around the world.
According to the Washington based Beer Institute, over 300,000 kegs where stolen in the USA in 2007 alone. At a cost of $50 million these losses are ultimately being passed on to the consumers.
Unfortunately, with many locations suffering from a shortage of space many bar owners have little or no choice but to leave brewery assets outside once the beer has been sold.
In Europe, bar owners have been benefiting from Keg Lock® the anti-slip device for kegs, which allows them to make the most of their vertical height by being able to safely double stack their full kegs and/or treble stack the empties.
A simple solution that once deployed is ensuring that empty kegs can be kept safely indoors or in a compacted secure location until the wholesaler comes to make their collection.

On a recent trip to Ireland I spotted this public alleyway filled with kegs – not double stacked – but quadruple stacked high.
Without the anti-slip protection of a Keg Lock® between each keg that stainless steel wall of beer, is an accident waiting to happen.

McDonalds France buys Keg Lock®'s
It might come as a bit of a surprise to some of you, but McDonalds in France actually sells beer… well Kronenberg to be precise.
With beer prices considerably cheaper than surrounding bars and restaurants, customers can take advantage and enjoy a Big Mac – french style – with a beer.
However, when McDonald’s designed and perfected the layout of the restaurants in the USA, they hadn’t accounted for the potential storage and use of kegs on site. With space being at a premium and Health and Safety a key consideration, McDonald’s France placed an order for specially made “red” ones for its chain of restaurants.
The Keg Lock® now allows McDonald’s to bring some order to those unruly kegs, by allowing them to safely and efficiently stack their kegs, and in doing so make the most of their restaurants vertical height.
